I’ve used coltsfoot with great success for coughing that won’t stop. Make a very strong tea with loose coltsfoot, simmer for a few minutes with lid on the pot. Drink a few cups a day, hot, with honey if you like.

Doesn't the colt try to get its foot out of the hot water? :^D

There seems to be a few plants named ‘coltsfoot’... Do you have the Latin plant name of what you use?

Something a little more available for persistent cough is onion and honey. Slice up a Vadalia (my favorite) and just cover it with honey. Let it sit for about 6 hours and drink a couple teaspoons of the juice. To up the cough suppression power add some brandy or bourbon. Drawback is it lasts only about two hours, but that could me the difference between some sleep and no sleep. On the upside, it’s delicious.
