The three pillars of Command are Responsibility, Authority, and Accountability. All must be present in required amounts, otherwise, the Command structure breaks down.

1. Responsibility - This is the job or task to be done. Responsibility may be delegated to junior to carry out a sub-element of the job, but only if the required portions of Authority and Accountability accompany it.

2. Authority - This is the means necessary to see the task through. It is the power control people and things.

3. Accountability - This is the reckoning. Did you do everything within your Authority to accomplish your Responsibility?

Responsibility and Authority without Accountability breeds Chaos.
Responsibility and Accountability without Authority breeds Frustration.
Authority and Accountability without Responsibility breeds Dereliction.
