The term is generalized as operational deception or misdirection.

It is intended to deceive the enemy only long enough for the operational. If it does that then the Maskirovka was successful.

Russian doctrine specified that every operation have Maskirovka. It was a check box on their planning list. We learned to look behind whatever we saw them doing.

One of the biggest complaints the Russians had was that very few American officers had read their doctrine and even fewer felt compelled to follow it. To the Russians, doctrine was holy writ.
