The signal appeared to come from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius and bore expected hallmarks of extraterrestrial origin.
The numbers and letters represent the energy intensity of the signal. It was off the charts.
The Wow! signal was traced to a region near Chi Sagittarii, and some analyses suggest it may have come from a Sun-like star about 1,800 light-years away in that direction.
3I/ATLAS, discovered in July 2025, also seems to be entering our solar system from the Sagittarius sector, though its exact origin is harder to pinpoint due to its high velocity and interstellar trajectory
