I was intrigued a few nights ago that the Prez in a late night tweet addressed magnets using the phrasing They Must give us magnets.
Pretty much all the other tariff negotiation with China falls to insignificance besides the magnets. There was even some talk about “we have the airplane parts they must have” as some sort of magnet counter.
The media has not picked up on just how important the magnets are, limiting talk to some defense applications and some medical. And then I noticed a rush to the wiki’s to downplay the importance of those magnets to society.
And then there was the announcement of a US firm getting a DoD contract to produce the magnets in the US, which the Prez noted . . . beginning next year.
That doesn’t scale. They have the monopoly. It’s pretty important stuff. They probably would sacrifice the airplane parts to be able to squeeze on neodymium.
Oh, and these next 4 days is the SCO meeting.
It’s essentially huge. It’s 42% of the world’s population, and if you toss in Indonesia and a few others in Africa, they have the majority. But they present SCO as regional.
I have noticed not a word from the Prez about punishing China for buying Russian oil. India has decided to just accept the punishment. They have 7% GDP growth and losing 1% to tariffs doesn’t really persuade much.
It’s easy to Stupefy the social media crowd.
