Cracker Barrel leadership says their older customers aren't dining at their restaurants like they use to and need to cater to younger customers. Supposedly 43% of their customers are 65+. Over the years, having a pipeline of new customers doesn't seem to have been a problem. If you look at demographics today, there are more 65+ year olds than ever.

So what happened to their customer base after Covid? Is it bad service, mediocre food, high food costs? Or are there other other factors at play such as less travel because of less disposable income after retiring early and getting clobbered with a couple of years of high inflation?

The mediocre food alone would keep me from eating there. I live within walking distance of a Kentucky Fried Chicken, but I haven’t eaten there in over a decade because they changed their recipe years ago and their chicken doesn’t taste nearly as good as it used to. There are three Korean eateries within walking distance that serve far better fried chicken.
