LAFAYETTE, LA (KPEL) —A Lafayette woman says she was assaulted by a Popeyes manager when she requested a refund for her incorrect order.
Shena Decuir told KLFY News 10 that she suffered first-degree burns after the Popeyes manager allegedly threw freshly fried chicken at her during a disagreement about the mobile order she placed at the Johnston Street location in Lafayette.
I was assaulted. I was belittled. I mean, it was a horrible experience, and no one should have to go through that.
The shocking incident took place once Decuir returned to the drive-thru to inform staff about a mistake with her order.
The victim alleges that once she requested the correct order or a refund, that's when the manager escalated the situation and became confrontational. Decuir says he was irritated because the store was nearing closing time.
Decuir says the manager demanded she give the food back and then requested a receipt for her order.
He was like, ‘well, give me the chicken’ and I was like, ‘can I have the receipt?’ Because I will be back for my money and to complain, and I don’t think he liked that I said that.
That's when the manager threw the hot chicken at her, causing burns to her neck, chest, arms, legs, and feet. Decur called Lafayette Police, who arrived on scene with EMS.
According to KLFY News 10, Decuir is already recovering from an unrelated incident and said she felt alone and helpless, but also thankful that the confrontation was caught on camera.
What would’ve happened if there wouldn’t have been cameras? It’s unacceptable.(snip)
The Lafayette Police Department arrested and charged the manager with simple battery.
The Director of Human Resources told KLFY that they are preparing a formal statement in response to the incident.
For now, anyone looking for a job can apply for the manager position that is now listed.

Lafayette is cajun country.
That’s funny, whenever I’ve been to a Popeye’s they don’t even serve ‘hot’ chicken, it’s usually already gone cold.
I looked, Shena Decuir is a white lady.
Sheesh@ this is getting old.
A tactical error on his part. He should have thrown cold chicken at her.
I rest my case then.
The manager was wrong. But I can understand his predicament. He’s trying to wrap up business and an unhappy customer is keeping the store open. You know others don’t care what time they close. If the lights are on and a car is in the drive-through, they’ll think they’re open and try to order. Maybe they’ll be told they’re closed but…uh, oh. Another car just pulled up. Can’t back up. Can’t order. Can’t move out until the unhappy customer is dealt with. And here comes another car…
It is a Cajun built eatery and staffed a lot by cajuns. It explains a lot for folks who have been around Morgan City or Houma or Lafayette of Golden Meadow.
Poultry battery assault.
Chicken shit charges.
Clucking wrong.
I can go on.
I don’t think so it’s probably exactly what you think
Indeed. That’s a waste of damned fine chicken. The chicken sandwich wars are long over, but I thought Popeyes was hands down the best. The red beans and rice are also quite nice
When I was a youth I lived on the Intracostal Canal in Larose Louisiana. When the tugboats came by I would holler ““Throw me something Mister!” and they often did. Mostly oranges as they throw longer distance. Sometimes they fell short. No problem, I could swim. My youth was a paradise of innocence and hunting and boating and fishing in the swamp. If you do not know the swamp it can kill you. My neighbor Mr. Alicie Melacon an older gentleman taught me about the swamp. He was not an educated man but knew the swamp. He was intelligent. We ate what we caught or killed. Alligator is not bad but you need to cook the hell our of it as it is a tough meat.
I miss those days of innocence.
A case of fowl play.
Les Nesman released live turkeys from a helicopter. It was off camera but the humor was real. “As God is my witness, I swear I thought turkeys could fly “. That’s how you know they weren’t frozen. Plus the damage a frozen turkey dropped from 1000 feet would be devastating. The comedy would not have worked.
Let me guess….
She’s the victim. Do you have a picture or name of the perp?
That's some pretty hot chicken. Does Popeye chicken really stay that hot for that long?
No, but the story said the manager’s a man.
Correct. Thanks
And I thought Waffle House was fun after midnight. This Popeye’s manager has a job waiting for him after Popeye’s cans him
Popeyes fried chicken hot enough to cause burns? Who are they trying to kid? Perhaps hard enough to break bones but never that hot! Their biscuits could be used as hockey pucks and last a whole season!
