Got her up to 73 mph, eh? Which went faster, the car or the car’s fuel gauge?

My parents were straight GM buyers and I am certain their cars got an average of 8 miles per gallon.

I think it thought it was north of 110. When I let off at the toll gate it lumbered like it had lost a pound of carbon.

Doesn’t sound like you know anything about this vintage when it comes to speed

MY 1965 Pontiac Catalina wagon got 18-19 out on the road and I could hang at 80-90 all night long on I-40 thru New Mexico.

You must be a youngster who never drove one. Like OldPlayer in #10, we had a ‘66 4-door Bonneville with a Holley 4-barrel 389 V-8 rated at 325 HP connected to an and Turbo Hydromatic transmission. On our Western trips to see grandma and grandpa (and assorted other relatives), it would cruise through Montana for hours at 90 mph without breaking a sweat.
