My wife once had the REAL Uncle Hershel as a patient when she worked as a licensed practical nurse in a nice nursing home called McKendree Village, in Hermitage, east of Nashville. She said Uncle Hershel was a very nice looking man, even in his later years. Apparently, Uncle Hershel actually loaned his nephew, Dan, the money to start the restaurant chain. One of the original breakfast meals printed on the menu was called “Uncle Hershel’s Special.”
