If Vice President JD Vance decides to campaign for the White House in 2028, he might have an uphill battle from the Democrats, according to a new poll.
The election is still years away, but early polls in swing states can give insight as to what the future looks like regarding candidate viability, voter sentiment, and party dynamics, especially after the results of the 2024 election.
A poll released by SoCal Strategies and sponsored by On Point Politics and Red Eagle Politics found that California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg may have an advantage against the Vice President when faced head-to-head.
Newsom received a 39% chance of victory in a matchup against Vance, who scored 37%, according to the survey. Meanwhile, Buttigieg fared better with 41% while Vance once again only secured 37% of the vote.
The poll surveyed 700 US adults on August 18, weighing by "age, gender, race, education, and 2024 vote to match the Bonfire National Voter File," said SoCal Strategies.

I recently watched the actual 6 pm-to-4 am election night broadcasts of every single one of the ABC, CNN, NBC, and Fox media reporters and analysts (also including PBS, NewsNation, and the CBC)...

I think that watching these 6-10 hour-long election night programs should be required education...
Then watch the CBS 1980 election night coverage where states were called for Reagan with 3-6 percent of the vote counted in those states...

If either of them beat Vance in a debate, it would be a marginal win at best. Besides, both Buttigieg & Newsom have a tremendous amount of electoral baggage that won’t play well in the General.
