Binary reminded me of a funny story.

Many years ago I was at Disney at an arcade in Future World. I was looking at the tic-toc-toe machine. The game displayed a tic-tac-toe card filled with Xs, and 0s. The challenge was to quickly memorize the card and reenter it exactly on the next screen. Two Asian kids were standing next to me looking at the game and I said to them it’s just binary. Converting the rows to numbers reduced what you had to remember by 50%. So we played and killed that machine. People stood around watching us with awe. We cheated. We all took a row so we reduced we had to remember by another 75%. One kid took two rows. An example of distributive processing which was a new concept back then.

That's funny!

I had a somewhat sarcastic experience about 5 or so years ago. I was in New Brunswick, Canada visiting extended family on July 1 (Canada Day). It was in small quaint town with a parade and it was my job to stand next to the parade to video my family riding in their old Ford Model-A in the parade. While waiting, some courteous, yet drunk as skunks, young people offered me water because it was hot (27C, which 81F).

In my strongest Alabama accent I replied "This ain't hot" (keeping in mind that just two days before I had been in 100F outside loading a large trailer back home). One of the Canadians asked where I was from; I told him. And the drunkest young man said, "Yeah, I bet you speak only one language." I replied that I speak only one, but I can read and write multiple languages fluently, and the ones I've forgotten I can always quickly recall after looking at it a few minutes. So he demanded I tell him which languages. To which I replied by naming every programming language I've ever used all the way back to Commodore 64 BASIC when I was 14. LOL
