Back in the old days when I was growing up in the farming country of the upper midwest farmers were just transitioning from draft horse use to tractors. Many, like my dad still kept one team around for light field work like corn planting and in the winter to pull the bobsled, but eventually, all the aged and feeble horses were sold to a local mink farm in the area and feed to the minks.
