A Russian suggested building a bridge for railroads across the 2.5 miles. It would make trade better. Someday it will be made but long after the last Neo-Con is buried.
How about ice road trucking in the winter?
The “2.5 miles” is between two islands (Big Diomede, Russia, and Little Diomede, Alaska). There have been proposals to bridge (or tunnel) the Bering Strait (55 miles, not 2.4), but even the American side doesn’t have a connection by road or rail to the rest of the continent (and Russia is worse). With nothing to which to connect such a bridge, it doesn’t make much sense.
