Brilliant. How many tech jobs would there really be no American applicants for? And if there were such jobs, would it not be because they paid below the market rate?

Market rate is one side of the problem. The other is that you cannot apply to another company for a job — the initial one who holds your H1B permit/visa will deport you immediately. So, you are locked in no matter what, you are a slave.

Employers hiring H-1B visa workers are required to “pay the nonimmigrant workers at least the local prevailing wage or the employer’s actual wage, whichever is higher; pay for non-productive time in certain circumstances; and offer benefits on the same basis as for U.S. workers.”
