Uptown Ed - Arista All Stars (Featuring Michael Brecker)
TOPICS: Music/Entertainment
KEYWORDS: jazz
Just felt like posting this. I have a transcript of this, Thank God for whoever did that.
I've gotten through maybe 12 measures.I met Michael once. We got along great, because we were both smartasses.
It’s just a 12 bar Blues, but... DAMN!

While most jazz performers like to play a little outside of the box, I don’t think Michael Brecker even accepted that there was a box to play outside.

Man, I was so privileged to shake his hand. And Sonny Rollins.
Another one who liked to play "outside" was David Murray.
I used to go "outside" in college. People used to look at me like "Damn, Dave." Fun time.

    How could anyone transcribe that?
The nice thing about digital music is the ability to slow it down without affecting the tuning.
I have a great app for that called Anytune Pro. Definitely worth the investment.

Yes, Michael (saxophone) and Randy (trumpet). The late David Sanborn joined them on a few albums.

    I transcribed
this. Only did the lyrics, they're on a piece of paper on a shelf on the other side of the room.
Never got around to the chord changes.
