Except there are over 100,000 worldwide commercial flights per day. We only hear about the bad incidents, which are relatively few.

In fact, the wife and I used to fly, 3-to-4 times a year, to LV, throughout the 1990s and early 2000s...
Then we ended up stuck in LV on 9/11...
Drove a rental car almost halfway back to the East Coast, meeting our oldest son, who drove from Maryland to meet us.
We never flew again...
