Lindsey Graham says Trump’s goal is to prevent third invasion of Ukraine, wants Zelensky ‘to be part of the process’

One of President Trump’s core objectives heading into negotiations with Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin will be to prevent a third invasion of Ukraine, according to Sen. Lindsey Graham.

“I am here to tell you that President Trump will end this war in a way to prevent a third invasion and not to entice China to take Taiwan,” Graham (R-SC), who went golfing with Trump on Saturday, told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“We’re not out to humiliate Putin, we’re out to get a deal to make sure there’s no third invasion.”

“Militarily, we need to keep Ukraine strong, keep flowing them strong and modern weapons, and security guarantees with European forces on the ground as trip wires to prevent a third invasion,” he said.

“We want to end this with the sovereign, independent, self-governing Ukraine, and a situation where Putin cannot do this the third time without being crushed. This is really a dress rehearsal for Taiwan.”

Graham also floated the division of Berlin as a model to settle the conflict between Russia over time.

“Think about East Berlin and West Berlin as the way a conflict can be settled, at least for a period of time. North Korea and South Korea [are] in a state of truce. There’s never been a final settlement,” he said.

“I want to be honest with you. Ukraine’s not going to evict every Russian, and Russia’s not going to keep [everything]. So there will be some land swaps at the end,” he added. “The goal for me, and I think President Trump, is to end it [the war] forever.”

Ukraine is an economic basket case.

Ukraine is going to want defensive weapons it can’t make itself and funds to maintain its army of properly trained, combat-proven soldiers.

Hopefully, the EU will pony up the money, but Europeans are known to hold on tightly to money.

Hopefully, Ukraine can supply drones and combat training to the US/EU to help compensate for EU/US contributions.

$elensky* will want his presidential palms greased.

A few billion a year is cheap by Pentagon standards to secure the southeast front of NATO.

“Graham is as Republican as Romney or McCain. Sorry if you like him”

I have a more favorable view of Florida black snakes.

The Phoney War (French: Drôle de guerre; German: Sitzkrieg; Polish: Dziwna wojna) was an eight-month period at the outset of World War II, during which there were virtually no Allied military land operations on the Western Front from roughly September 1939 to May 1940.

The U.S. foreign correspondent William Shirer was assigned to Berlin at the onset of World War II. In his diary entries on 9 and 10 September 1939, he wrote about the puzzlement felt by many:

Apparently the war in Poland is all but over. Most of the correspondents a bit depressed. Britain and France have done nothing on the western front to relieve the tremendous pressure on Poland.… One week after the Anglo-French declaration of a state of war the average German is beginning to wonder if it’s a world war after all. He sees it this way. England and France, it is true, are formally fulfilling their obligations to Poland. For a week they have been formally at war with Germany. But has it been war? they ask. The British, it is true, sent over twenty-five planes to bomb Wilhelmshaven. But if it is war, why only twenty-five? And if it is war, why only a few leaflets over the Rhineland? The industrial heart of Germany lies along the Rhine close to France. From there come most of the munitions that are blowing up Poland with such deadly effect. Yet not a bomb has fallen on a Rhineland factory.

Anyone banking on European security guarantees should recall the Srebenica massacre. The victims were supposedly under the protection of European peacekeepers.
