Peter Hathaway Capstick also wrote “Death in the Tall Grass”. Never forget the description of the power of the cape buffalo’s heart / circulatory system. On one occasion a cape buffalo was shot near the heart. The stream of blood that squirted out was the diameter of your thumb and the pressure shot the stream 30 feet from the animal.

I raise Cape buffalo in Texas.

Very stout fences, lol.

Funniest story is when I told pipeline guys not to go into a pasture and we had to wait until the bull decided to move to the next pasture and close the gate.

Bull absolutely destroyed their pickup.

There was an article here on FR a few weeks ago about a rancher that was killed by 2 water buffalos that he got at an auction to interbreed with his existing beef herd. They were not even capes. Also someone posted that capes were the only hooved animals that would fight instead of flight when in danger, what a bunch of hooey. Texas longhorns will eviscerate a dog in a heartbeat and donkey have a well earned reputation for killing wolves and coyotes that endanger their beef herd. One of the dangers of the cattle drives in the 1800’s was the longhorn range bulls that would charge and gore the cowhands horse. And lord help ya if you find yourself in the middle of a pasture and you come face to face with a Holstein bull.

But I don’t need to know anything about you, other than your comments, in order to respond to them.

And why would you assume I’m with anyone?

I think that guy knows what he’s talking about, and I think it’s smart of you to pay attention to him.

Actually Africans did starve before we started feeding them
By the millions
And these animals need culling typically
And safari hunting or not are major local $$ for folks
U need to think it thru beyond the emotive glee

U eat flesh if u post here

So you’re a self righteous hypocrite

But admittedly that’s pretty ubiquitous in the modern west lol

The article mentions lefties on anti hunting sites crowing the buff killed someone’s family member

And we have a handful here doing same

On a so called conservative site

Commonality is odd

He liked to go out on foot and kill things. Apparently it was a dangerous hobby.

Shooting the creature from a helicopter would make a lot more sense.

It’s humerous in your self righteousness that you think it’s a 1:1 Texan kills animal, Africans get meat, when knowing the corrupt history of African nations. I’d like to know how big of a cut the local warlord gets off the top, and then the dictator running the ‘government’ gets their share all before any hungry villagers see any money or meat.

Better yet, I'd like you to prove that such warlord is getting any cut..........You made the claim, so prove it.

As a side note, the rangers patrolling Africa in search of poachers are paid from the revenues that these "monster" trophy hunters bring in........

Tell me you have never been in Africa without saying so.

First off there is a reason this animal is called the black death. Buffs kill more humans than both lions and hippos the other two most dangerous animals in the dark continent. You have never seen what a village can and will do to one of these animals as soon as the pictures are taken and the head is cut off. In literally 15 minutes or less there is not even bones left every piece has been cut and taken by a villager. I have never seen a “warlord” on a hunt or afterwards. I have seen rangers and national police plenty of times.

As for hardware his firearm doesn’t have iron sights under the scope and that probably cost him his life. At close range and a rapidly charging animal a scope is less than useless. Both my 375 H&H and 416 Rem Mag have irons and ghost rings with look under raised scope rings and large fiber optic front sights. Both on positive feed and extraction Mauser 98 actions. Woodleigh steel jacketed solids are the first two rounds in each mag and in the pipe. Either the 376 or 416 will penetrate the horns of a buff on a head shot which in a charge is where you aim right at the base of the horns above the eyes that hits the brain and spinal column the only way to stop a charging buff cold you must hit the CNS or you are a dead man.

They also don’t understand you pay a fortune to hunt the selected animal, and the meat goes to feed a local village.

The result of this hunt shows it’s dangerous and not just an easy kill.

Reminds me of a fun Spanish joke:

An American cowboy stops at a local restaurant following a day of drinking and roaming around in Mexico. While sipping his tequila and mezcal, he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, but the smell was wonderful.

He asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?" The waiter replied, "Ah Senor, you have excellent taste! Those are bull's testicles from the bullfight this morning. A delicacy!"

The cowboy, a little taken aback but never one to shirk from a challenge, says, "What the heck, I'm on vacation, I'll try some!" The waiter replied, "I am so sorry Senor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bullfight each morning. If you place your order now, however, we will be sure to save you this delicacy for tomorrow."

The cowboy placed the order and the next evening he was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After a few bites, and inspecting the contents of his platter, he called to the waiter and said, "These are delicious, but they are much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday, why is that?"

The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Si, Senor... sometimes the bull wins."

"Responsible for several deaths and many injuries to hunters each year, the buffalo is regarded as the most dangerous animal to pursue in Africa, let alone the world," CVS also said.

If you're an African safari company drumming up business, sure. But I bet Australia (and others) would be more than willing to take that bet!
