What percentage of SNAP recipients also get cash benefits, it is far from all of them.

Since when would anything related to EBT actually be “food purchases”?

EBT is a government program, don’t forget.

I am a Scorpio. And to top it off my birthday is the very same day as our host Jim Robinson. November 3rd... So I think he is kind of special as an Eagle like myself... According to Linda Goodman there are three types of Scorpios. The Scorpion, Eagle, or Gray Lizard.

“Typical eagles have no fear. In battle they’ll lead their men into the very face of death without a tremor. Even the average Pluto man or woman bravely faces anything from physical pain and poverty to ridicule and failure with a proud contempt and complete confidence in an inner ability to overcome any blow.”

Jesus told individuals how to act, he didn’t tell governments what to tax and what to do with taxes, or what giant bureaucracies to build.

Helping people is an instruction to you and me, not to the government, Jesus didn’t go to Caesar to tell him to create some government social programs, his interest was with your hidden heart as you, not you as a source of income for the government.

Nothing is more obvious than hearing the eternal tale of food stamps poor people and their obsession with lobster.

Don’t get hostile, it is a simple mention of the eternal lobster stories, and of course the reminder that any poor person’s food budget for the month would be wiped out quickly buying the most expensive foods in the store.

I stand by what I said. I don’t think GOP should get bogged down in policing what people eat.

Forcing behavioral fixes through government regulation rarely works.

Even then, restricting SNAP purchases, I doubt, would significantly change dietary habits in any case.

Poor nutrition is deeply tied to income and lack of education. More bureaucratic stuff won’t solve the root issues.

Where it all get confusing is how to define each individual item, which of the almost countless drinks is a soft drink, what is officially junk food and it must include the endless number of food items, and so on, the effort to restrict foods can only work to a point before the complexity overwhelms it.

There could also be a category for those temporarily on snap versus those on it permanently, (seniors, disabled, handicapped, etc.) if on it permanently they need to be able to live their own life in regard to food, with variety and personal choices and adaptations to different stages of their lives and health, for instance a new instruction from the doctor, or the inability to keep some foods down, or elderly loss of appetite and wanting to live on cheez whiz and potato chips.

I haven’t seen that government cheese since the 80s, even as it was being reported of a glut of cheese in America years ago, all I have seen of cheese in recent times is government version Velveeta.

They can pay their own medical bills as well. Consuming more soda and eating more junk food than the general population and turning around to claim Medicare funding and farm subsidies to grow the corn at taxpayer expense will at least lift the pretense that this has anything to do with Supplemental Nutrition.

“”I am a Scorpio. And to top it off my birthday is the very same day as our host Jim Robinson. November 3rd... So I think he is kind of special as an Eagle like myself... According to Linda Goodman there are three types of Scorpios. The Scorpion, Eagle, or Gray Lizard.

I am an avid eagle fan. Most noble creatures and yes, brave, as well. Have been observing them for decades on live cams. And I have, in the past, gotten along very well with Scorpios. But I try to get along with everyone. Well, everyone that is NOT a leftist.

My thing is... if I believe something, I will defend that belief to hell and back. I am 100% against big government and its restrictions upon We, the People... while raping and pilaging our wallets our entire lives. Giving us “no choice” is a mostly leftist thing.... which is why it upsets me to no end to observe “supposedly Conservative” people approve of yet more government restrictions. In this case, it’s more government restrictions on some folks that are merely down on their luck or stuck in a spiral of poverty, through no fault of their own. It just seems cruel and like adding insult to injury.

These people here clamoring for such restrictions on the poor have no idea how lucky they are to not have to deal with that attitude from others. But they might, very likely, find out some day what it’s like. It will be a great shock for them, I fear. And I suspect that it may turn out that I was right about government taking the “anti-sugary sodas torch”... and fundamentally transforming/turning it into something entirely different in the future. Something very unpleasant for everyone except for the ruling elite in government.

Bottom line, the solution is to get the fraud out of welfare but that’s a pipe dream. I fear that the real criminals will continue to profit, while the real poor, including the working poor, will be the ones that suffer the most. Such is life...

Jesus CHOSE to do that. Himself.

And He told His followers to do that. But NOWHERE did He ever advocate for the government to do it by taking other people’s money and using it against their wishes.

Anyone who wants to hand out their own money to feed the poor is certainly welcome to. But to take other people’s money from them under threat of jail time if they don’t cough up taxes and then to use it against their wishes, is WRONG.

People are not so opposed to helping the poor as much as having the government extort the money from them in the form of taxes and then doling it out with no accountability or oversight.
