The Texas House of Representatives passed a resolution Monday afternoon calling for the arrest of dozens of Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to prevent a congressional redistricting vote from going forward.

At least 100 of the 150 members of the Texas House must be present for a quorum so business can be conducted.

Removing them from office is not an immediate solution if the goal is getting that bill passed.

Ever read that book?

It’s full of despicable animal cruelty.

I believe that the Dems are trying to run out the clock, trying to stay away until the end of the session. Well, just declare that, without there being a quorum, the session is held in abeyance and, essentially, no time is passing in the session in absence of a quorum. That would result in the Dems having to be in exile until they give in and return to Texas. Once in Texas, then the arrests can commence in the event that they still don't want to do their job.

Basically, it's the "Long Parliament" transferred to Texas.

Afraid that wouldn’t be unconstitutional. But there’s nothing in the Constitution about former friends and neighbors shunning them, and walking their dogs on their lawns in the middle of the night without a scooper, and other subtle hints that they are no longer welcome.

You say, “Immediately cease all payments of any kind to all legislators acting unlawfully by fleeing the state.”

Given all the blather on this subject, yours is the most precient.

“Our Democracy” means a quorum for voting democratically must be stymied to get our way.

(Rushed, probably could have worded that better).

Actually it is because the moment you start removing them they will come running back.

This irony is that Illinois is the most gerrymandered state with weird looking districts.

The Chicago Kenyan did the same thing to Arizona while I was still living there. Some Feral piggy judge told the Kenyan to send an entourage of his swamp pals to Arizona and redistrict the state so it will become a blue state. Somebody should have been shot during that fiasco.

TX dems have done this before. Nothing happens.

If I recall correctly - the previous versions of this theater only resulted in postponing the Republican led efforts.

There was one case when the dems loaded up a bus and absconded north on I-35 to Ardmore, OK. A few TX Highway Patrol were seen keeping watch outside the hotel.

To Democrats, "democracy" means Democrat majority rule. Any other form of democracy is illegitimate and therefore the rules don't matter.

If those members aren’t working then there is no need for their office or staff. Fire their staff or put them on unpaid leave. While not directly targeting the democrat members it would put pressure on them by angry staff who need to pay bills.
Also most work, crafting legislation and arranging meeting would be curtailed as well. If a Democrat member no longer has an underling to arrange hotels, vacations, or even a way to get to/from an airport... democrats count on conveniences afforded by office to function.

The IL map is artwork of Madigan. Obama is irrelevant to the IL map.

Few mention what should be discussed...the role of money from FEC and HAVA “Friends of Dodd” in bribing and extorting AZ and other states.

Most zoos are filled with the descendants of animals he captured. You can even make a case that he has saved many species from extinction.

I did not imply or accuse Buck of animal cruelty - far from it.

I agree with you about the zoos...

I ask you again — did you ever read the book?

How ‘bout the Indian Maharaja who prepaired a tiger to fight 12 dogs to the death...yes all of the tigers claws had just been pulled out with pliers and the tigers mouth was sewn shut (almost all the way)...

That’s animal cruelty.

PS The tiger ran the opposite way that the Maharaja expected and with that one or two exposed tooth/teeth the tiger killed the Maharaja’s son...a fair ending I’d say.

Just one of many horrific tales...

Some of the Democrats went to the blue states of Illinois and New York to keep the redistricting vote from happening.

Ironic. Illinois is the most highly gerrymandered state in the nation.

Why? Trying to come up with random questionable legal maneuvers is pointless. TX Gov can call a special session and give them something specific to work on. No need to play silly games.
