The U.S. ambassador to NATO has said Russian President Vladimir Putin has a “sick and twisted and probably not logical” mind.
American diplomat Matthew Whitaker was speaking as President Donald Trump’s deadline for Moscow to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine is set to expire on Friday.
“It is impossible to get into the mind of Vladimir Putin because it is sick and twisted, and probably not logical. But I’m guessing he doesn’t want to take on the most powerful military in the world, which is the United States of America,” Whitaker told right-wing U.S. television channel Newsmax TV on Sunday.
This comes as U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to visit Moscow on Wednesday, according to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.
Whitaker said in his interview that Witkoff would remind Russia of Trump’s ultimatum.

I guess, but Witkoff is going there is two days to see Putin. Is this helpful in advance of a visit from a presidential envoy?
The majority of national leaders seem to be that way. Most of them would qualify as Megalomaniacs.
That level of power over people tends to corrupt the one holding the power for a sustained period of time.
Russia is nation of savages that’s been ruled by psychopaths for centuries. Putin is just the most recent of many.
Putin is dumb. Does he really think President Trump will be scared of another failed Oreshnik test launch at the Kasputin Yar test site before August 8th?

Putin is a sociopath at a minimum. Many stories about him in small settings and on the world stage, indicate he has sadistic and maybe psychopathic elements.
Certainly he doesn’t care about loss of life and destruction. On his side or his adversaries.
In his mind, if he gets ultimate control over an area, even if it’s rubble and the population massacred, well he got it and that’s all that matters.
But it will be a long time for these societies to rebuild, and they will retain a hatred of Russia that most likely means they throw out Russia in the end.
Does he think he’ll live forever? Or that his greater Russia will? Or maybe he just wants to win even if it’s a hollow victory.
That’s where his thinking isn’t logical.
He could have a prosperous successful Russia but he’d prefer to control a rubble heap.
I believe the only thing he cares about is his own survival. So if he might be shot, blown up, tossed out a window or imprisoned - that he wants to avoid.
My guess is his “logic” tells him that a free and prosperous Russia will have no use for him.
So better to rule in hell than serve in Heaven.
He’s not the first.
Clearly Trump, Whitaker et al are publicly shaming Putin, I guess that’s the current strategy.
He IS a murderous tyrant - not the first or the last.
Trump has come down hard on Putin lately. What gives?
Trump tried kissing Putin’s butt for months. Bad result.
Now they are talking reality.
I think anyone underestimates Trump at their own peril.
Look at what Trump is doing to both China and Russia.
Trump’s approach is, if one of us is going down - it’s going to be you.
In that sense, Trump is every bit as ruthless as Putin.
Trump doesn’t want a war, and he knows the risks. But he already considered tossing Zelensky into the fire.
Now I think there is at least a chance Trump has concluded the world will be better off without Putin.
That’s why the Russians are saying, hey we’re not Iran!
Putin only cares about Putin, and therefore he needs to see the threats closing around him.
Before they all go down, it’s possible someone will find an open window and introduce it to Putin.
50-50 odds.
Trump needs to get rid of this guy before he gets us into WW III.

Oh gee, that totally negates his statement, awesome stuff.
People need to really think about this fact. Donald Trump is careful but he is ruthless. He will not let someone like Putin get the upper hand. Look at how he has no hesitation to visit our allies and publicly call them out.
Everyone liked Trump and Vance humiliating Zelensky and literally throwing him out of the White House.
Think about the sheer ruthless cajones it took to do that.
Now Putin has decided he can get around Trump. That option doesn’t exist in Trump’s world.
