I once asked him why he never considered becoming an airline pilot and he said such a career was only as good as his next physical.

and nothing you've put toward that career carries over to anything else.

And now we know why...

https://www.ntsb.gov/news/Pages/cvr_fdr.aspx

“...The CVR recordings are treated differently than the other factual information obtained in an accident investigation. Due to the highly sensitive nature of the verbal communications inside the cockpit, Congress has required that the Safety Board not release any part of a CVR audio recording. Because of this sensitivity, a high degree of security is provided for the CVR audio and its transcript. The content and timing of release of the written transcript are strictly regulated: under federal law, transcripts of pertinent portions of cockpit voice recordings are released at a Safety Board public hearing on the accident or, if no hearing is held, when a majority of the factual reports are made public...”

Handy, that.

So much for transparency.

Military pilots get grounded for a lot less than vertigo.

If this story is accurate there’s no way she should have been cleared to fly.

I knew a guy that was grounded by the Navy because of a back injury and he wasn’t even a pilot just a crew member.

See my reply #24.

And thanks, Deep State, for giving me another reason to refuse to fly.

BTW, anyone else curious about the number of Congressmen, Senators, bureaucrats using that helicopter corridor along the Potomac...

Because I bet that they are the reason this charlie foxtrot has been allowed to continue.

I think it might be very good to know how and why she got that duty.

Holy Carp! They should have left her in her usher job at the White House. Vertigo isn’t good if you’re a pilot. DEI is correctly spelled DIE. “You can be anything you want to be” is the biggest CROCK ever spoken. You can’t be anything you want to be. “A man has to know his limitations.” - Dirty Harry Callahan.

Was she using night vision? Unless you use night vision regularly and are used to it then it can make you dizzy. It is a known problem. Vertigo plus night vision maybe?

They realized air crews were self-censoring due to concern about the tapes being released. There is no room in the cockpit for that constantly added mental step.

Crews need to think fast and communicate freely. The solution was to only release transcripts and only release pertinent information - removing profanity, critiques about others involved in the flight, etc.

You are correct. It was some time ago, it’s not a recent thing.

It also came out that the altimeter on the helicopter could’ve been as much as 100 feet off.

A good female friend, flew private corporate hers for forty years, she is now retired. She flew and managed one for a group of doctors and lawyers for many years, hiring and using the same copilot. She was in the middle of a nasty divorce, and during a flight she mentioned to the copilot, “.i am so depressed over this divorce, I just want it over”. He reported it, she was grounded for over a year and was required to have counseling. The co- pilot got her job.

Ok. This is new. Frankly, in a normal world, such a condition would disqualify her from flying anything but VFR.

Additionally, a simulator qual should have disqualified her from flight duty under any conditions other than VFR, removing her from the cited assignment, and the civilian victims would still be alive.

If I was on a grand jury, my vote would support murder charges against her leadership.

Nonsense. You have to look at it this way: Who leaked the CVR to the New York Times, and WHY the New York Times? The fact that it was leaked meant someone was achieving a political purpose in leaking it. Now, a political purpose could be a just one, such as exposing corruption or establishing justice. But the fact that it was leaked to the New York Times meant that the leakers wanted to make sure that the politics of the situation were handled by Leftist despots.

This was terrorism. She hunted down the passenger jet.

I had to cancel my participation in some work at our club’s observatory tomorrow because I woke up this morning with another attack of vertigo. I have been getting these for a few years, an MRI found nothing. It’s very frustrating, I’m just glad I’m retired.

By the way, my wife says she could’ve told them they wouldn’t find anything up there….🤨

Seriously, she should have NEVER been allowed to fly. I don’t even want to go for a walk when I have these attacks.
