The Japanese were doing research on a frequency band between the infrared and microwave frequencies that had very special attributes. It allowed them to photograph the contents of a room, including the people inside through the walls from outside the building.
Years later when the Havana Syndrome was harming our workers in Cuba, I immediately knew it was the Russians using this technology to spy on our embassy.
