When did Palestine start to exist as a state? My understanding was that, on November 15, 1988, the Palestinian National Council, based in Algeria, declared the establishment of the State of Palestine, but who recognized them? I think that was the same year that Arafat argued for the state in front of the UN, with his pistol in his waste band. However, it is still not a member state of the UN. Stating that it is an ancient state is like saying The Bottoms in Pittsburgh is a “state”. It’s a geographic area, not a recognized state.
