It is classic slap stick humor, not that much different than the Stooges.

My opinion is that when you do this kind of "sophomoric" humor, you better go "all in" or it will fall flat. Think Airplane or Naked Gun. The Happy Gilmore 2 was not as good as the first Happy Gilmore IMNSHO. Comedy is a funny and very individual thing. Take the Airplane and Naked Gun series. I laughed my ass off in every one of those movies and my ex-wife didn't even crack a smile. Seriously.

Now, I am probably going off the reservation here but in my opinion, Sandler goes "all in" with the goofy comedy in Water Boy. Loved that movie.
