Maybe we’ll have a nice warm October to balance it out and keep some of the plants going, not to mention not having to turn on the heat! ($$$$)
Then again, will anyone on the north end of that dark blue blob be turning on their heat in late August?
I sense a road trip, or maybe at least a picnic, coming up for Labor Day. But, then again, that weekend is when I’ll likely have to do the repair of a window coming unglued from the drive mechanism in the car (2013 Outback) my daughter is using. Maybe we can go galivanting about in the other car while the adhesive sets in the other. Hmmm...
Meanwhile, I’ve woken up after skipping supper and retiring “early” due to a slightly upset stomach. Now I’m just hungry. Maybe a bowl of cereal will put me back to sleep in a bit!
Maybe we’ll have a nice warm October....

October is my favorite month. Usually, there are blue-sky days, little humidity & it’s sweater weather. The air has a touch of cool ‘crispness’ to it that I enjoy after the oppressive heat of summer.
September can still be quite hot. I am hoping the heat is moderated for the month & (after we get our new roof) there’s enough rain not to dry out too much. It’s been an unusually wet and hot summer, but after 2 years of drought (we lost a couple of large trees), the farm ponds that were dry are full again & the water table should be in good shape.
So what I have noticed in the last week - the grass is starting to turn. It’s definitely not from lack of water ... could it be an early Fall creeping in? Our dogwood tree(s) are going bronze, but they are early turners where leaf color is concerned. There are more leaves on the ground - the maples, especially those with smaller leaves, are starting to drop some. I hope this is not a harbinger of an early, harsh & frigid winter.

This is my first year growing shishito peppers. So enjoying this! It’s the big winner in my garden so far. I’m hoping mine keep going into at least mid October so that I can bring some to share with my sisters and BILs when we see each other then. I’m hoping to have several dozen to woo them with. Blistered or sautéed to add to eggs, I hope I have something I can share.
(It worked!)
