I opened my flight app and saw this... this American Airlines Flight 535 A-320 had taken off headed for Newark. They were taking off to the east this morning, so the plane should have literally taken off, continued over Mesa, and then on to its heading to the east coast. This one turned south towards Chandler, did an entire loop south of the airport, did another loop over Goodyear and came back to land—obviously diverting back to PHX due to a mechanical issue that happened just after takeoff.
So they come in to land and MISS THE APPROACH, head straight towards Scottsdale, do another loop just over the 101, at which point they came screaming right over my house. They do another loop over Glendale, line up to the runway again, and land. 34 minutes in the air.
I'm just wondering what almost happened in the air in Phoenix today? A mechanical AND a missed approach? A missed approach due to the mechanical? If that was the case, I would think ATC would have sent them out over the unpopulated desert to get things sorted out before attempting another landing.
