Why would President Trump do this? I don’t get it.

Ukraine is now Trump's war since he's rearming them via NATO. He could have cut off funding to the neo-Nazis running Ukraine and end military aid but choose not to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That is very unfortunate. I don’t understand why he would do this.
Long post re the Ukrainian war.
In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Q ~ Trust Trump's Plan ~ 08/01/2025 Vol.510, Q Day 2835, Keflavik76 wrote:
I don't think he's actually rearming Ukraine though. NATO had been relying on Biden/US to fund and fight if needed. NATO nations had let their militaries and equipment attrophy as they sat on their backsides, moving 'war' peices around a chessboard.
I think the New Sheriff in town (speculation here) hinted at the possible removal of the US from NATO in part because they don't pay their fare share. One of the nations (might have been france) was recently bragging that they had crafted a financial plan to raise their nation's contributioni to defense spending per prior NATO goals to about 2.5 or 3% (NATO goal is  5%).
Then President Trump met with NATO and we weren't told much about the meeting other than Trump pressed for a  5% committment and got it. When asked if the US would honor the 'mutual defense' clause re Ukraine, Trump said, "It defends on what you mean by 'defense.'   I believe he was saying, 'no' to that question as it applies to Ukraine if they continue to try to escalate the war in Ukraine.
So supposedly those countries are suddenly on the hook for a few percentage points of GDP to fund NATO, the US will not protect them if they manage to get the beginnings of WWIII going. At the same time, President Trump is telling them they are responsible for Ukraine; he made a point of saying to reporters that he had ended all war aid in Ukraine.
President Trump has said he gave defensive weapons to Ukraine.
So now NATO nations are 'naked and afraid' at the feet of Putin. Putin has previously said that nations which participate in the war (I don't remember his wording) directly are therefore subject to attacks on their assets regardless of which country those assets are located.
NATO has been warring against Putin for 3+ years and now the US is stepping out of the way telling NATO nations, "You handle it." They are militarily atrophied and it takes years to build advanced air defense systems which they lack and need.
Biden gave the Ukraine old aircraft - NATO didn't want them. Countries which gave Ukraine some old F-16's did so because they received new ones. Trump sellling NATO new equipment seems to be a tacit supply of weapons to NATO nations for their use in arming themselves - I'm just saying that based on what NATO has already done, President Trump knows that NATO's desperation for weapons means they'll keep what they buy for themselves and make a show of once again giving Ukraine obsolete equipment.
President Trump said he would sell NATO weapons. I believe given the conditions I outlined above, President knows NATO wants the weapons for itself, desparately. They desparately want to arm themselves because President Trump publicly removed the protection of the US from their war against Putin. I don't see NATO members purchasing weapons they anxiously need now that they feel naked, and giving them to the lost war in Ukraine.
 In selling 'weapons to NATO', Trump is not responsible for what happens to them next. If NATO doesn't supply weapons to Ukraine, it's none of Trump's business. They should negotiate peace if they don't want to arm Ukraine because they'd rather arm themselves.
NATO talks a good game but is out of money for Ukraine now that President Trump cut funding, and they know the war is lost. President Trump has tallied the US contribution to Ukraine: $350 Billion (that we know of). I believe Trump put that tally in the news as a marker; the US is not going to supply all the funding its been giving to Ukraine to pay government salaries, pensions, emergency services, and a host of government expenses which keep up the appearance of a functioning government (and economy) in Ukraine.  Zelensky said within the past year Ukraine absolutely needs promises of $42 Billion in such aid. I think Trump was saying, "The US has already given Ukraine $350 Billion. It's your war and your turn to hold up Ukraine's economy while supplying its military."
Overall, I think Trump's message is, "Okay so you have no intention of negotiating peace and will only accept the spoils of victory if you do attempt to negotiate. Well then, all the expenses of the war you prefer to continue are your responsiblity, including arming yourselves, contributing more of your GDP to NATO (or the US will leave), holding up Ukraine's economy, and supplying arms and technical support to Ukraine, when you don't have enough for yourselves.
President Trump has indicated this 'in front of Putin', who now knows the US will not defend the NATO countries that has been attacking Russia for three years. I think this is why Putin has recently bombed Western assets in Ukraine. NATO knows the cavalry is not coming - in funding, weapons or troops; NATO just lost what they've been fighting for.
I think President Trump is ending the war.
