Fun Fact: What if I told you that months before the Lincoln assassination, the son of Abraham Lincoln had his life saved by the older brother of John Wilkes Booth? That’s right, Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, was on Holiday from Harvard. While standing at a train station in Jersey City, NJ, he was pushed up against a train, as a crowd of passengers boarded a sleeper car. The train began to move, which caused Lincoln to fall into the gap between the platform and the train. As he was about to fall in, a man grabbed his collar, saving him from sure death. As Lincoln turned to thank the man, he instantly recognized him as famed actor, Edwin Booth, the brother of actor John Wilkes Booth. . But wait, there’s more - Edwin’s traveling companion that day was none other than John T. Ford - owner of Ford’s Theater. Ulysses S Grant even sent Booth a letter, thanking him for his heroism. Robert Lincoln later wrote of the incident in a 1909 letter to Richard Water Gilder, edited of the Century Magazine. . It is worth noting that Edwin and his brother John were not close, and did not see eye-to-eye politically, as Edwin was a Lincoln supporter.
