SLIDE:

@1776Stonewall

Belarusian gymnast Olga Korbut, performing the now-banned “dead loop” at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Olga is considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, winning four gold medals for the Soviets at the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics. This historic footage is the one and only time the dead loop was performed. The maneuver, also known as the “Korbut Flip”, is performed on the uneven bars, where the gymnast, from a stand on the high bar, performs a back flip and re-grips the bar. It’s an extremely dangerous move where you can potentially break your neck.
