Ukraine, having been a hub of baby/children/women trafficking, is now in the spotlight because of Melania’s letter. The Nazis were the main drivers of this “industry”. I remember reading years ago that women were paid to get pregnant (artificial insemination? normal manner? can’t remember) and upon birth, the babies would be sold. To whoever. And many abortions, the parts would be used to make skin products and other etc. Beyond revolting and horrible.
Ukraine was known as the most corrupt country in Europe for a long, long time. Oddly enough, a bit of history: When the Germans invaded Poland and opened the concentration camps, Poles refused to work for the Germans being guards, so the Germans hired Ukrainians, they had no problem being guards. At the end of the war, and beyond, they were killing Poles in southern Poland, firefights, and one big massacre of men, women and children.

I watched an episode of one of those genealogy shows, I think it was “Who do you think you are?” with Lisa Kudrow from “Friends.” Her great-grandmother was one of 900 people executed by Nazis outside a village in Poland. One member of the family escaped as the Nazis were going through the town and rounding people up to shoot and pile into an open pit. He hid in the woods and then I think escaped through Russia. Then due to the Iron Curtain, her family (who had emigrated to the US prior to the occupation) did not know for years what had happened to them.
Ukrainians were also particularly nasty towards the Jews.
In L’viv, the Nazis didn’t even have to do anything, the Ukrainians did the work for them.
