Botox improves incontinence, vaginismus, and excessive sweating by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for these conditions.
1. Incontinence: Botox is injected into the bladder wall to reduce muscle spasms that cause urinary leakage. By relaxing the detrusor muscle, it increases bladder capacity and reduces involuntary contractions.
2. Vaginismus: Injecting Botox into the pelvic floor muscles can help relax them, reducing painful spasms that prevent penetration during sex. This allows for more comfortable intercourse.
3. Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis): Botox blocks nerve signals to sweat glands in areas like armpits or palms, significantly reducing sweat production for several months until nerve regeneration occurs. In all cases, Botox’s neurotoxic effect disrupts neurotransmitter release at neuromuscular junctions, leading to temporary muscle paralysis and symptom relief until the toxin is degraded naturally by the body over time.
I appreciate the details, numberonepal. I didn’t ask my fellow competitor the “how” of the botox injections and just kept walking to my ball. I believed her statements though and you’ve explained well how the treatments work. Thanks!
Be aware that Botox has no antidote. Its operational life is approximately six months. Once Botox is administered for incontinence, if it doesn't work to correct the problem, the patient will have to self catheterize for about six months in the likely event that urinary retention results.
Self catheterization is notorious for causing urinary tract infections (UTI's.)
