Singer/songwriter Lobo was born as Roland Kent LaVoie on July 31, 1943 in Tallahassee, Florida. One of seven children, Lobo was raised by his mother in Winter Haven, Florida. His father was a big band guitar player. Lobo joined the band the Rumors in 1961. He attended both St. Petersburg Junior College and the University of South Florida. In 1964 he joined the group the Suger Beats. Other bands Lobo was a member of in his salad days were US Male and Me and the Other Guys. In 1969 Lobo recorded "Happy Days in New York City/My Friend is Here," which was his debut single as a solo artist on the Laurie Records label. Lobo had his first hit song in 1971 with the charming "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo," which peaked at #5 on the Billboard pop charts. The plaintive ballad "I'd Love You to Want Me" proved to be Lobo's greatest smash success; it soared all the way to #2 on the Billboard pop charts in 1972.

Well Lobo turns 82 today, god bless and hopefully many more but his song, "Me and You and a dog named Boo", has to be one of most annoying songs ever recorded, and will stick in your head all day.

I know a weekend type of thread, flame away.

I always thought Bobby Goldsboro wrote/performed that song.
I guess not.
I figured that (Boo) was his follow up to his big hit called ‘Honey’. If you were around then, you will remember that song, whether you want to or not.

The ‘Main Man’ is the last Zarnian, greased his planet because they it and his people were lame. Been kicking ass through the Galaxy as a bounty hunter ever since.

"1971 with the charming 'Me and You and a Dog Named Boo'"

"Charming"?? Maybe the first time you heard it, but after the 500th time you wanted to puke your guts out and smash your radio and stereo.

"Me and You and a dog named Boo" has always been one of my favorite songs. We all long for the freedom of the road sometimes, and this song very simply personifies that.

Another big hit of his that no one's mentioned yet that is one of my favorites is, "Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend".

“Rings”, not his biggest hit (by far) is still my favorite Lobo recording.

My favorite of his was “Don’t Expect Me To Be Your Friend”. Let’s just say it hit home and was good advice to a young man.

Now I have it stuck in my head. Not even the Lobo version… The Brady Kids version from their cartoon show.

“Honey” is one of the few songs that will make me change the channel. Sappy tearjerker not only was a #1 hit but the biggest selling record in the world in 1968. Go figure.

Considering that was the year “Hey Jude” came out, that would be surprising.

You’re right. “Me and You and a dog named Boo” was a gentle expression of freedom.

I think the dog was innocent. But in a moment of weakness, the other two were caught robbing an old hen.

Old MacDonald, he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth

Even that was gentle. The farmer turned out to be a nice guy.

“I’d Love You to Want Me” is one of his songs I like, if I can ignore the line: “I felt the blood go to my feet.” He originally wanted The Hollies to record that song; they said they would if he changed that line. He refused and did the song himself.

I heard that the song honey was more effective than waterboarding prisoners to get information out of them.
