Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months.
The Harry Potter star, 35, was disqualified and ordered to pay £1,044 (S$1800) after she was caught driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford.
Emma - who shot to fame as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise - was sentenced at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (July 16), after she admitted speeding on Banbury Road, Oxford.
She was driving her £30,000 Audi S3 car at the time.
Emma wasn't in attendance at the courtroom, which is based in Buckinghamshire, southeast England.
According to This is Oxfordshire, her representative said in court that his client "fully understands her position and will accept her punishment".
Before the speeding incident in Oxford, Emma already had nine points on her license following three previous offences.
Her Audi was impounded by police in February 2024 after her parked motor was blocking two cars in Stratford-upon-Avon.
At the time, Warwickshire Police confirmed that "a report of a blue Audi S3 parked across a driveway and blocking in two cars on High Street near the junction with Sheep Street in Stratford.
"The report was made at 9.42pm and the car was impounded and taken away at 10.21pm.
"No crime was recorded."
Just days later, Emma wrote on X: "Still searching for parking in Stratford-upon-Avon. [crying laughing face emoji]"
The star was studying for a master's degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford, which she began in September 2023, before switching to a PhD.
In 2002 Anssi Vanjoki (founder of Nokia) was ticketed for speeding in Finland. Since Finland bases fines on income his ticket was for $116K Euro.
“””He just admitted in court to driving 110 in a 55 MPH zone”””
It seems to me that it get series once you hit 100 mph.
It’s England.
I suspect they adopted “progressive” fines that punish the wealthy more.
Finland banned Donald Duck because he doesn’t wear pants.
Yes...didn’t read it to the end. I was thrown off by “AsiaLive” and the reference to Singapore dollars (”S$”).
“I suspect they adopted “progressive” fines that punish the wealthy more.”
I suspect you didnt read the article ...
Sorry...”AsiaOne”
“That’s a bit harsh I would say..................”
Typical of what most states here would dish out.
A crummy Audio S3? What is it, the car she drives to get to her REAL car?
Suspended license for going 8mph over the limit? Doubt she or anyone would be pulled over for doing that in maga country.
Texas does points? Is that new?
Take 50 points from Gryffindor.
I nearly soiled my underwear when I saw that despite the fact that I had nothing on me. I almost dropped my blood pressure meds in the bin...just in case. I didn't...and luckily I wasn't arrested.
As I said...they don't fool around there.
Holy crap! A 6 month no-driving period for driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford??
She can always ride her broom. LOL
Did her Great-grandfather work for Sherlock Holmes?
Quickly, but I am also at least partially correct:
“Since 2017, UK courts have used sentencing guidelines for speeding offenses that base fines on a percentage of the offender’s relevant weekly income (typically 150% for a Band B offense, with adjustments for severity).”
Note to self: Never drive in Oxford.
I’m not comfortable driving on the wrong side of the road anyway.
