A gunman seen carrying an assault rifle killed one police officer and injured at least six others when he opened fire in broad daylight in the heart of New York City, before he reportedly took his own life.
Security camera photos posted online showed the gunman wearing a sport coat and button-down shirt while carrying the large rifle near a midtown Manhattan office building that houses Blackstone asset management and the NFL on Monday.
He is believed to be a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, who had a silencer on his massive weapon when he opened fire inside the lobby at around 6.30pm, with approximately 30 people inside, according to CNN.
Officer Didarul Islam, who was working private security at the time, was shot in the back and killed and five others were injured in the attack. Their conditions remain unclear
Meanwhile, the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the building, where Blackstone has its headquarters.
In an update on X, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the 'lone shooter has been neutralized' and the scene is 'contained.'
Videos shared online showed officers in protective gear entering the building at 365 Park Avenue with their guns drawn.
Another video taken by Fox 5 showed several officers carrying a victim, while others appeared to be tending to a person lying on the ground.

An enterprising lawfirm should start a class action lawsuit against CNN for white males. They’d all get $.35 cents each, but would be fun.
The photos seem to contradict the statistics.
It’s a good thing most of these shooters are lousy at planning and shooting.
The statistics go back to 1998 while the photos are from 2019 which points toward a trend of fewer white mass shooters proportionally.
