Fat or not fat, I don’t blame him for being upset, and refusing to just go along with the bad manners of the girls.
Then, for the Dad to not even acknowledge what was wrong, kind of lit the fuse to explosive acting out.

It was free food. He was there as a guest, yet acted as if he owned the place.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the dude had been drinking (free) booze, and probably a lot of it, to boot.

It is not bad manners for children to join their parent in a buffet line. It’s completely normal.
