It isn’t really “going around” the sun. It makes a close approach to Mars, crosses a little inside Mars’ orbit, then heads on out of the solar system. It’s moving so fast, and will stay so far from the sun, that the sun’s gravity barely changes its trajectory.

What was hypothesized is because it will go behind the sun, that is where it could (COULD) do a reverse braking procedure and come back towards earth. The issue being behind the sun we cant tell what it does, and also because of if it comes back towards us it will be very hard to spot because the sun will mask it.
I’m not saying it will do that. The paper seems to be a worst case scenario type, even the author says it probably isn’t.
