Jerry Garcia, August 9, 1995, 53 years old. I was just thinking that Jerry would still be among us if this were true....

Garcia's demise was really a combination of bad living, smoking tobacco, marijuana, crack cocaine, a junk food diet and just not taking care of himself. He was slowly dying.

Jerry Garcia was an alcoholic, on-and-off heroin addict, and a lifetime cigarette smoker. Probably not the best counter example of ‘longevity through psychedelics’. Now Dr Albert Hofmann, discoverer (and user) of LSD and the first to elucidate the structure of, and to synthesize psilocybin, lived to be 103. Being a happily married Swiss chemist without substance abuse issues probably contributed to his long life.
