Stephen Colbert declared to Donald Trump that “the gloves are off” in his first broadcast since his Late Show was cancelled amid a political firestorm, as his fellow hosts lined up to defend him with Jon Stewart scathingly denouncing Paramount for trying to “censor and control” its hosts.
Colbert, the top-rated late-night talk show host in the US, said last week on his CBS show Late Night – which he took over from David Letterman in 2015 – that Paramount’s decision to pay a $16m settlement to Trump over another flagship CBS show, 60 Minutes, amounted to a “big fat bribe”. CBS is part of Paramount, which needs the Trump-controlled Federal Communications Commission to approve its $8bn sale to Skydance.
Paramount pulled the plug three days later, with Trump revelling in the firing of one of his most prolific detractors, posting on his Truth Social platform: “I absolutely love that Colbert was fired.”
Colbert came out swinging on Monday, telling Trump to “go **** yourself”.

I can’t watch Colbert, his right ear freaks me out. Did it get cut off then put back on? Is it fake? Is it falling off? I’m scared of clowns.
The same thing with Jimmy Kimmel, I get a bit freaked out because I’m not sure which eye is looking at me through the camera.

Colbert vastly overestimates his own importance. He’s less significant than a fart in a hurricane. Gloves off or gloves on he’s totally inconsequential. And he has zero talent too.

Colbert’s hated Trump and the half of all Americans who support him since Trump announced he was running... What’s that weasel going to do? Call him Hitler? Refer to the Americans who voted for him as ‘deplorables’? Or have 51 Intelligence goods lie against Trump on his show? Maybe host non-stop Trump haters on his show? Colbert sucks...
I think they expected this and will be able to fire him for cause and save even more money.
WOW. So edgy. He is FINALLY going to go after Trump. So brave. So courageous.
Most likely. And Skydance buying CBS means they don’t want to continue to fund a losing show. Unlike CBS, they are there to make money not be political all the time, no matter the cost.
