In the interest of safety, build it a few miles away from the town. You know, like away from populated areas. Then when there is some sort of accident…there will be fewer mutations of plant and animal life during future years.

Seems a bit premature. Nobody has demonstrated sustained fusion for more than a fraction of a second, as far as I know.
