On a soda bottle the threads are someone how designed to be able to release the pressure. The threads on this device must be really tight.

Good point. ‘Loose’ threads would do it.

Yes.

Think about the coefficient of expansion difference between Aluminum or Stainless Steel and plastic?

You could do an experiment sealing one of the bottles with ice cold soft drinks. Put it in the sun, and the pressure will increase with temperatur and the dimensions of the plastic will change less than that of the metal.

It will go Pop.
