If you stop reading every time a journalist makes an error, you probably don’t read much.;-)

The F-16V (Viper), also referred to as the F-16 Block 70/72, is the latest variant of the F-16 Fighting Falcon fourth-generation multi-role fighter aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin.

They're one and the same. Viper is merely the nickname given to the aircraft by those who fly it and maintain it.....

So you can finish reading the article now.

The F-16 (Fighting) Falcon was my baby...
The F-16 Viper is the updated (advanced) version of the F-16 (like the F/A-18 was improved to the F/A-18 Super Hornet

You might want to talk to the pilots and ask them what they call the bird.

The F-16 is named the "Fighting Falcon" but from the beginning, pilots and crews used the name "Viper" instead, referring to the Viper starfighter from the television program "Battlestar Galactica" which aired at the time.

The US Air Combat Command F-16 demonstration team which currently flies the F-16CM has been known as the F-16 Viper Demonstration Team.

The current F-16V is also referred to as the Viper. (Adding to the confusion, as though it's the "F-16 Viper Viper")

The UFO may have been a Colonial starfighter Viper colliding with a U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper that was an F-16V Viper variant with a pilot who had once flown in the Air Combat Combat Command F-16 Viper Demonstration Team.

It was hard to sell fighter pilots on the name "Falcon" when Ford already had their versions on the road.

“Viper” is what the pilots and crews call it ... because “Fighting Falcon” is lame.

I think it might be a Battlestar Galactica reference ...
