Wow.

In a time where I am discouraged that I even see people on Free Republic succumbing to Leftist thought patterns and behaviors, here is a man who I thought was lost, but appears found...ideologically, at least.

I had heard for most of my life that an actor I enjoyed, Richard Dreyfuss, was a raging Leftist. I had seen him speak on camera a long time ago, and there was no doubt. He was the kind of people I avoid. Not a Liberal. An angry Leftist. It was extremely disappointing to me, but not in the least surprising given the composition of Hollywood. And it has been my experience that most of those types of people are unrecoverable.

It made me more sad than angry.

Then I heard something recently about him, could not remember what it was, and it made me think "What the heck? It sounds like he has had a change of mind?" but the article did not have any substance or links to show that one way or another.

Then I saw this thread, and the link to his website about civics. It led me to this website:

LINK: Richard Dreyfuss Explains Why He’s No Longer a Democrat (TheWrap)

This article was written back in 2016, and this is an excerpt:

"...When the famously liberal Richard Dreyfuss attended a Ted Cruz rally in Iowa last month, the backlash from the left was swift, and conservatives delighted in it. “Left Eats Their Own: Goes After Richard Dreyfuss for Attending Cruz Rally,” said a headline on the right-leaning site Breitbart.

But Dreyfuss knew some things that his critics didn’t.

First, he didn’t support Cruz. Second, he hadn’t just attended a Cruz rally.

And third: He hasn’t been a Democrat in more than a decade.

Dreyfuss tells TheWrap he had hoped to see Donald Trump in Iowa, more out of curiosity than anything else.

“I was there to hear any and all that I could hear, and I was hoping to meet or experience Trump,” Dreyfuss said. “I went to a [Marco] Rubio event, I went to a Carly Fiorina rally. Trump wasn’t there.”.."

At the time, he didn't think much of Trump's candidacy, but...he didn't know anything about Trump and it is clear he only knew what the press was saying about him, and it wasn't good. He had a lot of company there. Myself, I didn't know much about Trump either.

Well. This revelation has a positive effect on me. I was prepared to post something like "I don't agree with the likes of Richard Dreyfuss, but I enjoyed his acting and hope he is feeling better soon" and instead, see the hope that he may have been "red pilled".

I am now genuinely curious about his book now, because I assumed it was from the point of view of a Leftist who thinks Conservatives don't understand the Constitution (which whenever I hear a Leftist talk about the Constitution, is the kind of typical tripe you always get but...it doesn't appear that is the direction of the book. (We simply don't believe in THEIR interpretation of the Constitution, in which we reject their opinion utterly based on their actions in the political system.)

Here is a brief excerpt from his book-I wonder if it was something like what he described here that began to put cracks in his Leftist "foundation":

"...Obama’s secretary of education... once invited me to attend what they called the Obama administration’s 'university level rollout of civic instruction.' The presentation tried to convince me that public school was not the place for such civic lessons, that only universities were. I listened, then raised my hand when questions were asked for, and said, 'If I am correct, this program should cause students’ respect and love for the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and all that comes with it. But if you wait until students graduate from high school, you are guaranteeing failure... By college they will greet any attempt to inspire love for their system of governance with a middle finger. Bet on it.'..."

I am going to buy his book, and may post back on what I think.

In that excerpt above (about the invitation from Obama’s Secretary of Education) it is clear Leftist have an elitist attitude. Not only do they not believe parents have the training to be good parents and it is obvious they feel that unless you go to Harvard’s Kennedy School on Government” that you cannot be in the government.

Pftt.

Screw them. And good on Dreyfuss for pointing it out when given the chance.

I heard Dreyfus on TV a couple of years ago and he sounded totally reasonable. Not MAGA, of course, but not a crazy Lib either.
