Kaiser Wilhelm II was Queen Victoria’s grandson. a son to her daughter Victoria, who married Kaiser Wilhelm I,
Wilhelm II didn't like his mother and had her locked up in her room from time to time.
Victoria (Queen V's daughter) was married to Friedrich, Wilhelm I's son. Friedrich and Viktoria were liberals (in the original, good sense of the word) and, had Friedrich had a long reign as Kaiser, probably would have made late 19th & early 20th C German history far happier than it was. Sadly, Friedrich was very sick with throat cancer by the time he ascended the throne, and only reigned for about three months before he succumbed.
Unfortunately, Wilhelm II was ... unprepared, and also a bit of a nut.
