Examining China and India oil and gas flows. Both are very large importers.

China oil consumption 16.375 million barrels/day
They actually do have some domestic production — 4.264 mbpd

India oil consumption 5.6 million bpd
Domestic production 735K bpd

So you see the magnitude of import then require.

The world as a whole — production 96.8 mbpd, consumption 100.7 million bpd The differential is oil enroute.

The point being, there is nowhere else for India and China to get oil. You can sanction and tariff them all you want, but they have to eat, and oil moves food to mouths. OPEC+ has been announcing increases in production, but only a few hundred K bpd, and you can see above how much they must import.

Bottom line, if you literally starve China, they have no choice but to seize oil for someone else — perhaps Japan. This has always been the classic scenario for oil scarcity in China.
