I’ve always thought property taxes were a bad idea, but if states can’t tax property then they will have to figure out some other revenue through taxation. This “other way” may drastically affect seniors living on social security who were not paying property tax before, but might then be paying some form of tax they can’t possibly afford. If you are living on Social Security & are at the low end of those payments, you don’t have much to begin with. For instance, what if states who do not put a sales tax on food decide to do so? What then? That would hit just about anybody that eats. It would be disastrous for some.
Well most States will not give up school millages as they are based on property values ao think this idea is dead.
