“I always thought it was Franklin. Dunno why.”
I watched a movie on TV this morning. It supposedly was a docu-drama. In it they broached this subject and that conversation was in the movie but I have forgotten who said it. ;-(
It was not Franklin but do not remember who.
Though deeply respected, Jefferson was feared to be a bit of
a firebrand to his colleagues. As a result, the gathering
assigned Franklin and John Adams, Robert Livingston and Roger
Sherman to provide editorial advice to Jefferson. It is through
their wise counsel that we are left with the ‘pursuit of
happiness’ instead of the ‘pursuit of property’.
