Vladimir Putin has claimed in a phone call with Donald Trump that Russia played a role in the formation of the United States.

Speaking a day before America celebrates Independence Day, the Russian leader reportedly congratulated Mr Trump about its national holiday, held on July 4.

According to a report by Tass, a state-owned news agency, Yury Ushakov, the Russian presidential aide, said during the call “it was noted from our side that Russia played an important role in the formation of American statehood including during the War of Independence 250 years ago, and then during the Civil War, which ended 160 years ago”.

He added: “It was stated that our countries are linked not only by the alliance in the First and Second World Wars, but also by deeper historical roots.”

A family member told me Russia actually helped the USA (North) in the civil war.

That GB was thinking of intervening (with France) on the side of the Confederacy but Russia warned if they did it would join the north.

GROK says the rumor is true.

Putin speaks truthfully.

Yes and where did attritional battles drain the 3rd Reich of its men and resources and be the number 1 factor for the Loss?

USSR, created as you so aptly pointed out by Germany.

The creation of the USSR greatly weakened the Russian Empire. Hitler wanted Lebenraum, and the Russian Empire was the goal. The Russian Empire would have been a much harder nut to crack than the Soviet Union. Of course, if the Russian Empire was intact in 1939, there may never even had been a Second World War.

Right we are in counterfactuals now.

It’s hard to guess how a Russian Empire existence would have changed things.

My guess is Hitler never would have risen to power at all. Recall the primary reason the Nazi party got funding from the big business were, rightly so, they feared the rise of communism would lead to the government seizing their factories.

John Quincy Adams, who some consider the most intelligent U.S. president ever, was a teenager going to school in Paris while his father, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin, were representing U.S. interests in France during the Revolution. The teenaged JQA, who was fluent in English and French, served as a translator for the American mission to the Russian court during the Revolution, when the diplomatic language of Europe was French.

Saw a story which said that the sale of Alaska to Russia was a way to pay for Russias assistance during the civil war blockading the south. Russia figured Alaska was played out of furs so no big loss, never looked into it further to see if there was any truth in it

When the Soviet Union fell, I thought the USA and Russia would become the friends and allies we should be.

Islam is the real enemy.

But Neocons and democrats here have to have their wars.

The military industrial complex Eisenhower warned us of has to have its' money.

The democrats can't stand the proof that communism doesn't work, so Putin became their arch enemy.

Many leaders in Europe thirst for war, it seems to be a never ending cycle for them.

Maybe someday we will recognize who should be our friends and who we should be ready to do battle with.

Islam isn't a problem until their population in any country reaches a certain percentage.

Keep them in their original countries and keep them from attacking as we did from the early 1800s to a few years ago.

The Chinese? Who knows?

So if not creating the Soviet Union would not have lured Germany into starting World War II, then I suppose if you blame the existence of the Soviet Union for World War II, its creation was a bigger mistake than World War II alone.

Dr. Frank, do you have a source (other than Putin) for Russia being the first country to recognize the U.S.?

According to this source, Morocco was the first to de facto recognize the U.S., and France was the first to fully recognize the U.S.

Thanks Samurai, according to Putin, Russia not doing anything is “helping” us. We couldn’t have won our independence except that Russia didn’t do anything.

Here’s my question for you: Should Donald Trump genuflect when he thanks Putin for Russia not doing anything and thereby enabling us to win our independence?

Actually Poland, the country that Russia took over in 1795, gave the US a lot more help with Kościuszko and Pulaski.

The U.S. supported Russia during the Crimean War, and it was in Russia's interest to oppose British and French schemes to recognize the independence of the Confederacy. The Russians sent a squadron to the U.S., ostensibly to support the North, but actually to prevent its ships from being bottled up in their home ports as had happened during the Crimean War should another war have broken out in Europe.

I think that argument can be made.

In some ways WW2 may be the greatest disaster the west ever experienced. There is a book out now, I haven’t read it BUT Andrew Klavan has a podcast just in the last few days about it. The author says WW2 allowed Stalin and Hitler to basically ruin the reputation of nationalism which allow all the leftist crap we see today. Even Stalin called on the people of “Mother Russia” to defend the nation then after WW2 wemt back to quietly murdering nationalists.

I think it’s called “in Defense of Nationalism” ..maybe.

Ohh here is the podcast:

Klavan is correct.

There was a dramatic change in the tone of the Soviet government after Hitler invaded. Stalin was Georgian, not Russian, and he tried to tamp down Russian nationalism, but after the invasion, the Russians got a new national anthem, which was very “nationalistic” in tone, though the nation is never named. Just the “land that we love”. Frankly it is damned beautiful,

Your Zelinsky really slaughtered Kiev last night with his crappy ineffective statesmanship because Greed. Greedy punk will refuse peace until there is no grift left. This is what Grifting Green Tshirt Midget Moron did to Kiev in punishment for showing up at NATO meeting and poking the bear. He refused Trump’s help and sabotaged Trump’s peace initiative. Green Tshirt man clearly wants more war and destruction. Z Midget needs to surrender before there is nothing left. Or Z needs to disappear and a real Peacrmaker stop this needless suffering.
