RIP. Ever since I was a little kid, I heard never shelter under a tree during a lightning storm.

Thunderstorms rarely come out of nowhere.
Usually you can hear the thunder well in advance.
When you see one coming, get into shelter, and NEVER a tree.

Getting hit by lightning is a crap shoot.....we had 3 people hit in the same county in Florida recently and all survived.
RIP to this poor unfortunate soul.
