Central India’s Madhya Pradesh Government recently suspended seven engineers for the faulty design of a 200 million rupee ($2.3 million) bridge with a 90-degree turn.
The new Rail Over Bridge in Bhopal was announced 10 years ago and cost the state of Madhya Pradesh over 200 million rupees to complete. It was supposed to improve connectivity between Mahamai Ka Bagh, Pushpa Nagar, and the station area with New Bhopal, but all it has managed to do so far is spark controversy over a major blunder in its design – a nearly 90-degree turn built into the bridge. Photos of the questionable feature recently went viral on Indian social media, raising concerns over safety and how engineers could have overlooked such a critical error.
After the controversial bridge started training on X (Twitter), Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched an inquiry into the situation and subsequently announced the suspension of seven engineers involved in its design, as well as another inquiry into the activity of a retired superintendent engineer in connection with the faulty design.

This is why software is a mess.
It’s probably a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, so not really a big deal.
Not Chevron; Union Carbide was said to the culprit.
The top 10 countries with the lowest average IQ scores, as of 2025, reflect significant socio-economic challenges. Nepal ranks the lowest with an average IQ of 42.99, followed by Liberia and Sierra Leone, both at 45.07. Guatemala has an average IQ of 47.72, while The Gambia scores 52.98.
For reference, an IQ of 42 is typical of a dish sponge.
I liked that big crack across the concrete deck at the bottom of the pic.

We also have women engineers here in Texas, except they cost us nearly $1B, trying to design large bridges in Houston and Corpus Christie, but screwing it up (after killing 6 people with a collapsed bridge in Florida). So it’s not just India, DEI is pretty much EVERYWHERE.
As long is it ain’t The Gordie Howe Bridge I don’t care.🏒
I remember that. I was ten, going on eleven. Those were some pretty horrific images that were getting shown on the news.
It looks like an automobile or foot bridge. There are or were several of those over I95 in philly. Since I95 is along the the delaware river there, you need a short bridge with right turns to descend to delaware ave along the river. It’s obviously not a railroad bridge, there are no railroad tracks.
“nearly”
smh
I’ve seen a couple of “Y” bridges, but never an “L” bridge.
Kind of like their programming/coding...
This is what it is like to deal with Indian software engineers.
That many were injured. Wikipedia said 2,259 immediate deaths with a few thousand more in the following weeks.
A suspension bridge?
But still 2 to 3 times as high as the average Democrat.
As a PE, that was my first thought. If not and it’s intended for vehicles they need to acquire AutoTurn if they can’t calculate the required radius based upon the speed limit.
